As Malaysians, we know, parking can be CRAAAZZY. It’s for that reason that we try our best to pick and choose which days to visit the shopping mall so that we can avoid circling in frustration just to get parking. But do you really know which day is the most difficult to find parking? Is it Hari Raya? Chinese New Year? Well, the answer may surprise you.

Here are the top 8 craziest parking days based on the amount of times ParkEasy parking was oversubscribed on those days. That means the total number of times ParkEasy users tried to book a parking spot, but we were fully reserved.

8. Sat, 1st Jun - 1,125 times oversubscribed

Remember what it was like being in school? Every day just bangun pagi, gosok gigi. That’s why the times we most looked forward to were the school holidays because it meant - FREEEDOM! 1st June 2019 was the first day of the 1st-10th June school holidays. This was the day that kids got into the holiday spirit and paksa their parents to bring them out for a day of fun :)

7. Sat, 31st Aug - 1,127 times oversubscribed

While some Malaysians enjoy celebrating by watching the Merdeka parade, it’s pretty clear that some of us also like to celebrate it by doing another very Malaysian thing - going to a shopping mall.

Note: This flag is just an icon ya. We could not find a nice icon with 14 stripes and star points.

6. Tue, 30th Jul - 1,135 times oversubscribed

This day was the installation ceremony of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong. It makes sense that it was packed because the holiday fell on a Tuesday instead of a Monday, meaning that it was not a long weekend that allowed people to travel too far. Furthermore, the public holiday was announced just a month before on 28th June 2019 so this was really a surprise holiday for most.

5. Sun, 30th Dec (2018) - 1,355 times oversubscribed

Yes, yes - we know that 2018 is not 2019. But for parking, the end of the year does bring a lot of crowd to the malls. As this article is published on 20/12/19, the data for this article is from 19/12/18. Anyway, we all know why this was a popular day - it was the last Sunday of 2018!

4. Sun, 27th Oct - 1,584 times oversubscribed

Deepavali this year had a few good things going for it:- (1) It’s Deepavali; (2) We see a monthly spike towards the end of the month because of payday; (3) It was in the middle of the 25th-29th Oct school holidays; (4) People didn’t go outstation because kids need to study for year-end exams; and (5) Most people would have gone outstation in September when there were THREE long weekends in one month. Put all these things together and you have the perfect parking storm.

3. Tue, 1st Jan - 2,352 times oversubscribed

It’s a NEW YEAR! 2019!!! WOOOOO! Wow… do you remember what you did on this day? Doesn’t feel that long ago does it? Guess what gaiz, 2020 is just around the corner…

2. Wed, 1st May - 4,253 times oversubscribed

Now we’re getting really crazy. This day has almost double the number of people oversubscribed as New Year. Why is Labour Day so popular? Well guys, doing ParkEasy, we’ve seen this time and time again. Please learn this - NATIONAL HOLIDAYS ON WEDNESDAYS WILL BE PACKED. Because when a public holiday is on a Mon/Fri, people will have a long weekend. Or when a public holiday is on Tue/Fri, people will apply just one day of leave to make it a long weekend. But if it’s Wednesday, right in the middle of the week…. people don’t apply leave - they just stay in town. I will tell you the future right now - Wednesday, 16 Sep 2020 WILL BE PACKED.

1. Tue, 25th December (2018) - 4,747 times oversubscribed

NOPE, it’s neither CNY or Hari Raya - they are not even in this list! Those are the times when we export the Klang Valley traffic to the rest of Semenanjung.

Every year, Christmas that is the most oversubscribed day. December is school holidays, so the whole family is free to go out. Secondly, 25th is the end of the month and year, so people not only have been paid their salary, but some may even have received a bonus. Lastly, it’s just ‘that time of the year’ - you may have noticed - the last weekend of the year and New Year’s Day are also on this list.

So that’s it. I hope you learnt something uniquely Malaysian from this blog post. And we know, sometimes you just can’t avoid going to the shopping mall even when you know it’s going to be packed. On those days, just use ParkEasy to book a spot in advance. Even if we are fully reserved, you can always subscribe to be notified when a bay becomes available.

From the ParkEasy team, we hope that everyone has had a great 2019 and are looking forward to a great 2020 ahead. Thank you so much for your continued support. We hope to make parking even easier for you next year. Til then, stay #ParkingAwesome!!
